Today I had the privilege of speaking with students at Boston University about Trauma Journalism with Professor Meghan Irons a former Boston Globe reporter. I shared lessons shaped by my own experience living and working through some of Boston’s most painful chapters. We talked about the responsibility journalists have to tell the truth while remembering the humanity of the people whose stories they tell. I was honored to share my experience from both sides of the microphone. As a community leader who lived through the story. And later as a broadcaster and interviewer. Most importantly, I left inspired by these young journalists and grateful for the opportunity to learn with them. The story matters. But so do the people behind it.
